Grandma-ma-Ma!
Today, we celebrate my Grandmother’s 89th birthday! When I think of my Grandmother, I think of a woman of pure grace, unconditional love, faith like Ruth, laughter, wisdom, joy, good food- oh the butter cornbread and stove top cast iron skillet fried chicken! I pray to live a filled life as my Grandmother does daily- one in which I can without reservation deny myself and take on the world in preparations for a better future for the lineage I carry. The strength of my Grandmother is of such tenacity, of such dignity and uprighteousness! the eptiome of a Black woman. There is no trinket great or small that can captivate the essence of my Grandmother and appropriately pay its respect for all that she is as the Matriach of our family. On today, I celebrate my Grandmother, I celebrate the example she has given us to follow, I celebrate the many years we’ve been blessed to have her, I celebrate the years to come with my Grandmother and most importantly, I celebrate and am of such humbleness and gratitude that my daughter has her Great Grandmother here with her! Time is the one thing that does not stop and despite the obstacles of the day, I can always vividly see my Grandmother telling me patience, smelling the auroa of her beautiful perfume and starring into the eyes of strength greater than a lion but dressed with the pure essence of a sophisticated and classy black woman. Oh! Grand-ma-ma! thank you, Happy Happy 89th Birthday and to many more to come! With infinite love!
